26 Years of Empowering Communities for a Just and Sustainable Future
Welcome to the official website of the Rural Volunteer Centre (RVC), a non-governmental, non-profit organization that has been serving the communities of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh since 1993. For over two and a half decades, RVC has been at the forefront of grassroots development, focusing on improving lives, reducing poverty, and promoting a healthier, more equitable society for all. We are proudly based in Akajan, a tribal village in Dhemaji District, Assam, and have expanded our work across several districts in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Our mission is simple: to build an epidemic-free, just society in the rural heartlands of the Upper Brahmaputra River Basin. Through community-driven solutions, we work tirelessly to address local needs, from disaster preparedness to health, education, gender equity, and climate resilience.
Our Impact Across the Region
We work across 11 Development Blocks, 45 Panchayats, and 750+ villages, reaching remote communities in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, and Majuli (Jorhat) districts of Assam, as well as West Siang and East Siang districts in Arunachal Pradesh. Our approach is built on collaboration, trust, and empowering the most marginalized communities—particularly women, children, and youth.
Our Focus Areas
Climate-Resilient Livelihoods:
We support rural communities by promoting climate-adaptive livelihoods that protect natural resources, improve agricultural practices, and ensure sustainable income sources for families, particularly in flood-prone areas.
Technology in Education:
We are committed to integrating technology into education, helping rural children and youth stay competitive in an increasingly digital world while promoting access to quality education.
Health and Nutrition:
Our health programs focus on maternal and child health, nutrition awareness, and sanitation. We prioritize the health and well-being of adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
Child Protection & Rights:
We are committed to upholding the rights of children, promoting child protection committees, and building youth forums to empower young people in their communities. We also advocate for the sexual and reproductive health rights of adolescents.
Gender Equality:
RVC believes in the power of women’s empowerment to drive community change. We work to create a gender-equal society by engaging women in leadership roles and addressing issues of gender-based violence.
