Who We Are
Transforming Communities, Empowering Lives
The Rural Volunteer Centre (RVC) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization committed to fostering sustainable development and resilience among vulnerable communities. Established in 1993, we are based in the tribal village of Akajan, Dhemaji District, Assam. With over 26 years of experience, RVC has become a trusted partner in addressing critical social, economic, and environmental challenges in the Upper Brahmaputra River Basin.
Vision & Mission
Our Mission
We aim to empower marginalized communities by providing resources, education, and opportunities to build resilience and foster sustainable development. Our mission is deeply rooted in addressing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and evolving global challenges.
Our Vision
To realize an epidemic-free just society within a 50-year framework, where communities thrive in equity, health, and harmony.
Where We Work
RVC’s programs span a wide geographical area, encompassing:
- Assam: Dhemaji District, Lakhimpur District, and Majuli Sub-Division of Jorhat District.
- Arunachal Pradesh: West Siang and East Siang Districts.
Our efforts reach 11 Development Blocks, 45 Panchayats, and over 750 villages, impacting thousands of lives.
How We Started
RVC was born out of community spirit and determination. Starting on community-donated land, with materials and labor provided by locals, the organization took root with initial support from SWRC, Tilonia. Early efforts focused on helping flood-affected populations and gradually expanded to address broader development challenges.

- Equity and Justice: Promoting fairness and inclusion across all programs.
- Sustainability: Ensuring that our interventions have long-term positive impacts.
