WHAT WE DO
Empowering Communities, Building Resilience, Promoting Equity
Rural Volunteer Centre (RVC) is dedicated to fostering sustainable development, protecting rights, and improving livelihoods in vulnerable communities. Our work spans multiple thematic areas to address the unique challenges of rural populations, particularly in Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Our Core Focus Areas
1. Disaster Management
Natural and man-made disasters frequently disrupt lives in the flood-prone Upper Brahmaputra River Basin. RVC works to mitigate their impact through:
- Community-Based Disaster Preparedness programs.
- Training in disaster response and resilience-building.
- Collaborating with local authorities to create robust disaster risk reduction frameworks.
2. Education for All
Education is a cornerstone of empowerment. We aim to ensure access to quality education by:
- Supporting primary education initiatives for rural children.
- Integrating technology in education to bridge the digital divide.
- Promoting the rights of children through Child Protection Committees and Children’s Groups.
3. Women Empowerment and Gender Equality
We are committed to ending gender-based violence and ensuring equal opportunities for women. Our initiatives include:
- Strengthening Mothers’ Groups for collective action and advocacy.
- Promoting reproductive and sexual health rights for adolescent girls and women.
- Awareness campaigns on gender equality and women’s rights.
4. Health and Nutrition
Health is the foundation of well-being. Our health programs focus on:
- Maternal and Child Health (MCH) to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates.
- Promoting WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) practices to prevent waterborne diseases.
- Raising awareness about nutrition for adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
5. Climate-Resilient Livelihoods
Livelihood sustainability is critical in a region prone to climatic extremes. RVC promotes:
- Climate adaptive agricultural practices for long-term food security.
- Alternative income-generating activities to reduce dependency on natural resources.
6. Youth and Community Engagement
Engaging youth and communities ensures sustainable development. We encourage active participation through:
- Youth Forums that foster leadership and advocacy skills.
- Building networks like Child Protection Committees and Community Forums.
- Training programs to empower youth and create employment opportunities.
How We Work
- Participatory Approach: Communities are central to our work. We collaborate with them at every stage, from planning to implementation.
- Cross-Sectoral Collaboration: Working with governments, NGOs, and international agencies to amplify impact.
- Sustainability: Implementing long-term solutions that address root causes rather than symptoms.

- Reached over 750 villages across 11 development blocks.

- Supported women and youth in developing sustainable livelihoods.
